Self Dealing and Conflicts of Interest: Addressing Key Questions for Foundations
Wednesday, May 10th at 1-2:30 pm. Part of the Midwest Family Foundation Webinar Series.
Summary: As new employees and trustees join foundation leadership, questions arise about the rules and best practices impacting their staff and board members. These questions impact all foundations, including family, independent, corporate and community foundations. CMF Experts in Residence Brittany Kienker, Ph.D., and Jennifer Oertel lead this interactive session to address frequent questions about self dealing, conflicts of interest and other policies that foundations can use to remain compliant and avoid situations that could risk the organization’s reputation in the community.

“Options for Financial Giving: Exploring Philanthropic Vehicles for Families and Individuals” - Exclusive Event for the Northeastern Michigan Estate Planning Council
Tuesday, April 27th at 12-1:30pm.
Summary: Dr. Kienker states that individuals, families, and companies regularly reach out to the Council of Michigan Foundations (CMF) to learn how they can give back to their communities through philanthropy.  She will share resources that CMF provides in response which describe and compare three core vehicles that individuals and families might consider in making financial contributions to further their philanthropic goals: direct contributions, donor advised funds (DAFs) and starting a private foundation.  The program will include time for peer conversation and Q&A.
